We're on social media. We can see that many people aren't going to be giving up the ghost on a Bernie Sanders presidency anytime soon.
If you're still hooked on the Bern, you probably have Symone Sanders to thank, at least in part. Sure, the Senator from Vermont has been doing his thing for decades, but as Bernie Sanders' press secretary, Symone Sanders (no relation to the senator) helped craft his messaging for a broader audience.
Reaching a broader audience, of course, helped the campaign gain the momentum we saw throughout 2017, which in many ways is still around these days.
Since the campaign, she's been an outspoken commentator on CNN and other outlets. She often speaks passionately about institutionalized racism and the dysfunctionality that currently defines Washington DC.
As you may imagine, she's highly critical of President Donald J. Trump.
On Friday, Feb. 16, she's bringing her message to Eckerd College; the general public is invited to watch her speak.
She plans to talk about what it was like working on the Bernie Sanders campaign, which had an undeniable impact in 2016 and beyond as it attracted the support of young people and others who feel left behind by the current socioeconomic status quo.
Sanders will also likely address how grassroots movements and community organizing can help shape American politics for generations to come — but only if more people become aware and get involved.
