Taboo fetish ball: the naked and the undead (photos NSFW)

The biggest difference for me was how much more relaxed I felt hanging out at Taboo. In The Castle's dungeon room, no huddles of professional football players tried to steal my wife with aggressive pick-up tactics. Here I didn't even think twice about leaving my wife alone at the bar, surrounded by people dressed in medieval armor, carrying whips, or sporting dildos strapped to their faces. These freakish outfits were just masks in the same way juiced-up muscles and fake tans were costumes for the beach bar patrons.

Saturday night at the Taboo fetish ball, I couldn't help but compare the crowd with that of the beach bar I drank at that afternoon. At first glance the two groups seemed like complete opposites. Instead of tan blondes, the women tended to sport pale skin and dyed black hair. While the beach bar patrons were trying to achieve a shared vision of physical perfection involving steroid fueled muscles and surgically enhanced chests bubbling off starved frames, the fetish crowd celebrated what mainstream media depicts as freakish. Attendants wore vampire fangs, zombie contacts, fake blood, dark makeup, and intimidating masks. These were the people who grew up identifying more with the misunderstood monsters in horror films as opposed to the heroes.

Of course, there were plenty of similarities between the groups as well. They both had an excess of tattoos and they both had an affinity for large breasts concealed by minimal material.
