Over the past year, MyQmunity has grown into a tremendous resource for the Tampa-area LGBT community, emerging as a go-to guide for gay and lesbian events, restaurants, organizations, businesses, travel and more. MyQpons, says the site's founder Mariruth Kennedy, "is just a natural and very focused extension of what we already do."
Kennedy says MyQpons will offer a wide variety of deals, ranging from spice shops and restaurants to automotive stores and more, once or twice a week. MyQpons will also be looking to "offer an experience" for buyers whenever possible, creating packages involving local events or excursions that you won't be able to find anywhere else. The best part is, all businesses participating are either LGBT-owned and operated or pledge their support to the community. "So people know when they're supporting these companies, they know they're supporting the community," Kennedy said.
While other social buying sites typically run their deals for only a day, MyQpons will give people 48 hours to purchase offerings. "We know this community," laughed Kennedy. "We have to call our friends to see who's going to things. So this gives people more time to make decisions."
