Gender and gentrification are the planned topics for two controversial talks in St. Petersburg this week. Today, the Uhuru Solidarity Movement jumps into the Cathy Salustri I-Am-a-Racist controversy with "Reluctant Racist or Land-grabbing Vigilante?" — a forum that explores gentrification in Midtown. Tomorrow, join Susan (formerly Steve) Stanton — Largo's ex-city manager who was fired after announcing her intention to undergo a sex change — for the St. Petersburg Museum of History's Wine and Cheese Lecture Series. Munch and imbibe as Stanton shares the story of her journey from public servant, husband and dad to life in the public eye as a single woman promoting the rights of the transgender community. Uhuru event, Thurs., July 26, 7p.m., 541 16th St. N., St. Petersburg, free admission, 727-824-5685; and SPMOH event, Fri., July 27, 7 p.m., 335 Second Ave. N.E., St. Petersburg, $5-$10 (reservations required), 727-894-1052, spmoh.org.
