On Thursday, Dec. 13, a flood of bomb threat emails that appear to be a hoax were sent to a number of businesses, schools and other locations, including several Tampa Bay. No devices have been found.
The FBI, which is responding to the anonymous messages with law enforcement nationwide, tweeted last night that it’s “aware of the recent bomb threats.” The agency also encouraged the public to “remain vigilant.”
Locally, Tampa received at least six threats, while four others went to St. Petersburg, according to WTSP.
“We do not believe the public is in danger, but we are working with our law enforcement partners to share and investigate these threats thoroughly,” St. Pete police told the news outlet in a statement.
