All Tampa Bay counties and the surrounding areas are currently under a heat advisory, with sweltering temps expected through the day.

According to the National Weather Service, Tampa Bay will experience a peak heat index of 108 to 112 degrees Fahrenheit today from 11 a.m. -7 p.m. A heat index is how hot temperatures can feel when things like humidity are factored in.

The NWS issued a heat advisory for Hillsborough, Pinellas, Hernando, Pasco, Polk, Citrus, Hardee, DeSoto, Manatee, and Sarasota counties.

"Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances," said the organization in a statement. "Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke."

Temps are expected to drop slightly tomorrow, but the heat index is expect to remain high over the next couple days, say forecasters.

In the meantime, now is a good time to plan plenty of indoor, and pool-related activities.
