As we posted the other day, Tampa City Council candidate Kelly Benjamin says he's sick of discussing panhandling in Tampa. But while the District 6 candidate supports a total ban on soliciting in the streets of Tampa (while his opponent, Charlie Miranda, does not), the issue isn't going away anytime soon, not after the council yesterday rejected a bid for a "partial" ban on city arterial roads. Granted, the question need not be asked at any more mayoral or city council candidate forums, since every candidate has made their voices heard on the issue (and only Miranda and Frank Reddick, to our knowledge, are opposed to any sort of ban, period).
Speaking of the candidates, if you live in Tampa and have cable, you can watch virtually all of the candidates debating their opponents in a series of forums that the League of Women Voters is airing on the City of Tampa's Channel.(615 on Bright House, 15 on Verizon).
Earlier this week there was a grand opening ceremony for the extension of the trolley car system in Tampa. One of those who spoke was Peter Rogoff, with the Federal Transit Administration, where we talked about trolleys, light rail, and other aspects of transportation.
And of course, it's a Super Sunday weekend. In my post about the state of the game and The Game, I realized I neglected to give a prediction. Although I think the safe pick is the Steelers, Green Bay is actually favored, and I'll be rooting for fellow Northern Californian (and UC-Berkeley grad) Aaron Rodgers against Rothlisberger and Polamalu and company.
