Both the Tampa Tribune and the St. Petersburg Times are reporting this morning that the city of Tampa will soon install red-light cameras at 10 intersections considered to be vulnerable to excessive accidents and  incidents.

As the Trib reports, Mayor Pam Iorio considered installing such cameras three years ago, but pulled back, referencing information available at the time about rear-end collisions.

But the Mayor's for it now, saying,

"The city's police department supports this strongly because of the issue we have with red-light runners, and I believe there has been enough experience with other jurisdictions to ensure that the program can operate properly," she said.
