Tampa needs a new "official" municipal flag (representing the City of Tampa residents). This is not a "Tampa Bay" concern. It is certainly however, a Tampa issue.

Every great city (or city on the rise considering itself great) deserves a proper and inspiring municipal flag flown over City Hall. One that reflects the vibrancy and history of the city in which its citizens reside. I refer to you Roman Mars Ted Talk on YouTube: "Why city flags may be the worst-designed thing you've never noticed."

It is not a frivolous idea, nor a waste of anyone's valuable time. It is the complete opposite.

Flags, and all that they represent, are paramount to a community's cohesion and dedicated sense of purpose. In times of cause do we not "rally around the flag"?

I further refer you to "Good Flag, Bad Flag" by Ted Kaye for additional education.

It is past time that we address the abomination that currently is our City of Tampa flag.

Efforts are underway presently to bring this long overdue project to fruition. All that is needed is three things:
  • The understanding that a change is a good and necessary part of a city's evolution
  • A willingness to be a part of something special not only for posterity, also to inspire the next generation of Tampeños
  • Adhering to the 5 Basic Principles of good flag design
