Food and dining was Houck's beat at the Tribune for around nine years.

Wednesday was food journalist Jeff Houck's last day at the Tampa Tribune, according to managing editor Ken Koehn. He said Houck is exploring a new opportunity.

Koehn called Houck a foodie and a beer expert, describing him as the newsroom's "homegrown celebrity."

Houck started covering food and dining for the newspaper in 2005. He produced The Stew, the Tribune's food blog, and also hosted a podcast called Table Conversations.

"We love him," Koehn said. "He was just kind of a rock star here."

Wishing Houck the best, Koehn said the Tribune will fill the journalist's spot eventually, but that the paper will miss him.
