The Studio@620's latest exhibit, Illuminations: Stories in Light and Shadow, features the creative explorations of Susan Andrews and Carolyn Fellman. The duo are otherwise known as the Oiseaux Sisters ("Oiseaux" French for "bird") because they migrate seasonally: during the summer, the mixed-media artists work from their studio in upstate New York while the winter brings them down to Florida to their winter roost in Gulfport. Illuminations — an installation produced with their collective team, the Shadow Pixies, and headed by artist Robert King — features works of cut paper, paint, cloth, metal, wood and wire illuminated by multiple light sources and projections. During the New Year's Eve First Night 2007 celebration, the sisters expand the exhibit for a special visual arts presentation, Shadow Gardens. During this participatory event, the gallery becomes an impromptu theater of shadows and visitors are encouraged to make shadow creatures, wear shadow hats and other silhouette-wear with cut paper facets, and participate in a shadow dance among the cut shapes of an artist-made shadow cast. Shadow Gardens, Sun., Dec. 31, 7-11 p.m.; Illuminations is on display noon-4 p.m. Tues.-Sat., through Jan. 6, 620 First Ave. S., St. Petersburg, free admission (donations appreciated), 727-895-6620, thestudioat620.com.
