The Gaily News: Pope Francis asks, ‘Who am I to judge?’

Officials in Pennsylvania’s Montgomery County, located just outside of Philadelphia, are defying the state’s ban on gay marriage by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples anyway.

The gay marriage countdown is underway in Minnesota. On Thursday, it becomes the 13th state to legalize same-sex nuptials.

  • Pope Francis

Breaking away from the Vatican’s long-standing anti-gay stance, Pope Francis told reporters that he won’t judge gay priests for their sexual orientation.

“If someone is gay and he searches for the Lord and has good will, who am I to judge?” Pope Francis asked. “We shouldn’t marginalize people for this. They must be integrated into society.”

The topic came up on a flight back to Italy from Brazil when a group of journalists asked him about allegations of a “gay lobby” within the Vatican’s ranks.
