Whats the buzz on the latest issues in the Green Community? Check out what you may have missed this last week:
FEMA director Michael Brown: "Obama wanted the oil spill to happen" – Why would a president or environmentalist want to crash Florida's economy, or any other state's, during a recession or cause major damage to the planet?
– The Deepwater Horizon spill is now inches away from the loop current according to West Florida Shelf ROMS.
Darth Vader digs the new climate bill (video) – Is this new climate bill just a greenwashed plan to make the public believe that the government and big energy companies actually care about the climate? And who knew the Death Star was powered by coal?
USF Marine Scientist: We don't see in the near future any possibilities of oil spill reaching the beaches of Florida – When asked about the controversial use of two dispersants BP has been using to break up the oil before it hits shore which could damage marine life Hogarth said using them was probably the best option for a horrific situation. "You do have a lot of oil being gushed out and so, what do you do?" he asked rhetorically. "Do we know the long-term effects? It's a mixed bag. I think it's one of those things we have to deal with."
USF Marine Scientist says oil spill could hit Florida Keys by this weekend, Miami by May 28 – If officials disagree about whether the oil spill has flowed into the Loop Current, it seems to be only a question as to when it does, though there may be a dispute about how serious the situation becomes once it's in the Current.
New study links ADHD in children to pesticides – The findings were based on one-time urine samples taken from 1,139 children, ages 8 to 15, in a government health survey in 2000-2004. It dealt with organophosphates — one type of commonly used pesticide.
