When you really think about it, training for or preparing to take on any sort of major challenge or goal provides the perfect metaphor for life in general. Now over three months into our regimen, we've encountered what could be construed as each of life's major challenges. We've been motivated raring to go
light on our feet and excited about every mile ahead. We've bonked searching for excuses to give up, wishing we'd never committed to the task in the first place. We've seen pitfalls on every level physical, mental and emotional. Our progress has been as steady as we could make it under the circumstances, and the thing that has helped us to hold the whole project together is that we aren't just running in this race to raise money for charity or even to prove something to ourselves. The stakes are much higher now. Crossing the finish line on November 22nd is the sealing of a pact. It's a silent promise we are making to one another that no man shall ever be left behind, regardless of the circumstances.
As we resume a more normal training schedule we each have a new perspective on the coming months. We are wiser now considerate, more dedicated, empathetic and peaceful. There is no question as to whether we will complete our task
we could do it tomorrow if we had to. The goal now is to savor each moment between today and the end of November. These times we are spending training together are precious
every aching back
.every blister
every drop of sweat
they are all part of the magical mosaic we are creating as we celebrate mile after mile.
Cheers to my friends, the Stinky Drinkers. Here's to another two months of Gatorade guzzling, perspiration overload, and trying not to trip and fall head first into the oyster domes. Salut!
