Making a comeback in porn is not always easy, particularly if you come back lacking something many of your fans cherished, like your penis. In the case of Kimber, however, less may very well be more.
In May of 2010, Kimber James was at the top of her game; the petite 5-foot-3-inch performer with F sized breasts won the AVN Award for Transsexual Performer of the Year. Last year, she stepped out of the spotlight to undergo a full sex reassignment surgery and to decide if she wanted to continue in adult entertainment. With the confidence that only a brand new vagina can provide, Kimber released her first porno as a female last month. The film, Kimber James Busty Adventures: Amsterdams, was also the first film by her new studio, Kimber James Productions.
I caught up with Kimber over email to get her take on sex changes, saying goodbye to her penis, why she identifies with Barbie, and the challenges of reentering the porn industry as a woman.
Do you ever feel like a superhuman considering you have an extra sex chromosome?
LOL, no
You began transitioning into a woman at age 12, presumably when puberty started to kick in. Did your parents know you had Klinefelter's Syndrome from birth? If so, did they treat you as a gender-neutral child and allow you to choose which gender you identified with most?
My parents knew I had Klinefelters since I was an infant. I was a sick baby and the doctors were checking me for immune disorders. In the process they found out about the Klinefelters, which had nothing to do with me being sick, and I eventually just got healthy. After finding out what they had, I was never pressured to be like a certain gender until I started going to school, which confused me. At 12 I just couldn't take it anymore so, my parents had my name changed at 12 and I started hormones.
Before your sex reassignment surgery, did you do anything special with your penis, like take it out for one last hurrah?
Haha, no I never wanted it there anyway so I just said, "Peace out!"
Beyond your former penis, what has been your most difficult masculine feature to feminize: voice, feet, facial bone structure?
Probably my voice. I'm extremely self conscious about it. The thing that sucks the most about it is that it's the one thing I can't just go and have surgery on to fix.
Now, do you get more pleasure from anal or vaginal sex?
VAGINAL, VAGINAL, VAGINAL, I LOVE VAGINAL!
As a female performer, is there any relief in knowing you no longer have to worry about getting an erection on command for a scene?
Not really. I didn't really do it anyway.

Did you consider changing your name to Kimber Barbie when you returned to the industry as a female to help distinguish your new persona?
There aren't two sites. Only one. As of now the site is TS-KimberJames.com. Soon the site will be re-launching with the new url, BustyKimberXXX.com and a new design. The site will be updated with all the new content once a week and I'll be doing live webcam shows for my members once a week. The members will be able to see all the new goodies as well as all the previous content from TS-KimberJames.com.
No, I never considered changing my name. I am who I am and there's no way around that. I just like Barbie lol.
Considering that you seem to like the moniker Kimber Barbie, and you look like a busty Barbie doll, I assume you have an affinity for those iconic dolls. What is it about the Barbie brand that you identify with, if anything?
Well we're both blonde and made of plastic haha. I've always loved Barbie and over time everyone started to tell me I looked like a living doll so I went with it. Do I think I look like Barbie? No, I have a long way to go.
What challenges do you expect to face in returning to the industry as a female?
All the same ones I did before. I'll strive for everything, but I'm realistic so I'm not getting my hopes up too high. Over the years I've had many exciting projects in the works and for various reasons things don't always fall the way you want them to.
From your Instagram profile, you seem to spend a lot of time with Mia Lelani. Do you have any embarrassing stories about her?
MANY, but that's top secret information.
Kimber James Busty Adventures: Amsterdam was just released. It's both the first porno you’ve shot as a female and the first film by Kimber James Productions. What can we expect from this video, and from future projects by Kimber James Productions?
I think a more comfortable, confident, happy, well rounded person who is enjoying what she is doing.
How do you feel about some retail websites tagging Kimber James Busty Adventures in the “transsexual” and “she-male” categories?
I'm fine with it. That's what I am no matter what I have between my legs. However, the DVD is being sold in other categories such as big boobs and fetish.
