Thrillist released a ranking of "The 10 Most Charming, Wacky, and Delicious State Fairs in America," and the Florida State Fair was named among them.
If you've been to the Florida State Fair, you've most likely contracted pink eye (for real, I got it two years in a row), eaten something on a stick, and/or suddenly become afraid of heights after reaching the top while riding the largest traveling Ferris Wheel (a 115-foot-tall monster).
There's something magical about the overcrowding, impossible-to-win carnival games and the fleeting life of the goldfish you get as a consolation prize. Anyway, Thrillist crowned the Florida State Fair among its Top 10 in the country for having over half a million attendees in 2019 alone.
Other factors like the Budweiser Clydesdales, equestrian shows, the petting zoo and the more than 110 rides that are littered throughout the grounds. Can't forget about the vendors who continue to grow more adventurous every year.
"Newcomers on the food scene included a red beans and rice funnel cake, as well as a taco grilled cheese," Manhattan based writer Kastalia Medrano wrote. Attendees scour the fair for the food alone, snagging anything fried or on a stick; and in most cases, they are one in the same.
Other state fairs that made the list include North Carolina, Indiana, New York, Iowa, Ohio, Wisconsin, Arizona, Texas and Minnesota.
If you're dying to see what all of the fuss is about, the 2020 Florida State Fair will be back in February.
