Whether you are native Floridian or fresh bait awaiting the sweltering Florida summer ahead, being aware and prepared for hurricane season shouldn’t be a task overlooked on your summer checklist.
The last few years the Tampa Bay area has had a relatively care-free hurricane season. A few tropical storms brought in rain, wind and surf — but don’t let your guard down. Currently, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center predictions for the 2011 hurricane season, stretching from June 1 to Nov. 30, has estimated, “six to 10 hurricanes this season, with three to six of those expected to be Category 3 or above.”
Don’t fret. Though hurricanes have proven to be unmanageable and severely destructive forces of Mother Nature, hurricanes unlike other types of bad weather can be tracked, escaped and allow for residents to prepare and make the best out of potentially grim situations.
