To Believe, or Not to Believe

Film Sunday, December 9

Tampa Theatre continues its Holiday Classics Movie Series with the 1947 holiday drama Miracle on 34th Street, about a man who genuinely believes he's the real Santa Claus and the issues he faces after he accepts a job playing himself at a Macy's department store. In the midst of combating commercialism and helping shoppers find exactly what they want, even if it means spending at another store, Mr. Kringle attempts to arouse Christmas cheer in all those he encounters, including the skeptical young Susan Walker (played by Natalie Wood). Kringle's kindness does not go unnoticed and Macy's malicious in-house psychologist arranges to have the jolly old man institutionalized, which triggers a court trial to conclusively prove whether or not Kringle is the real Santa Claus. Dec. 9, 3 p.m., 711 Franklin St., downtown Tampa, $8, 813-274-8981, tampatheatre.org.
