True Colors

MUSIC

Brooklyn-via-Michigan power-trio Awesome Color has been compared to MC5 and The Stooges more times than I can count on my hands and feet. And I get it; Awesome Color is known for channeling the dirty, high energy Detroit power rock of the late '60s/early '70s — heavy drums; fiery, fuzzed-out riffs; raw vocals — and for putting on an earnest, lively stage show that sometimes features lead singer/guitarist Derek Stanton playing guitar with his bare feet (and playing it well). The band hasn't been around long — they started gigging in early 2005 and released their first album this past June — but people are talking and the buzz has been good. Awesome Color performs tonight at New World Brewery on a bill that also includes Kelp, Darlings, Hey There, Battleship, and Roppongi's Ace. Mon., Nov. 6, 9 p.m., 1313 Eighth Ave. E., Ybor City, $6, 813-248-4969, www.aestheticized.com.
