Tampa City Council Candidate Michael Ciftci will deploy from the Salvation Army, 1514 N. Florida Ave., and be on the streets counting beginning at 4 p.m.

Tampa City Council Candidate Lynette Tracee Judge will deploy from Salvation Army, 1514 N. Florida Ave.  The time she will be on the street counting is being confirmed.

Tampa City Council Candidate Susan Long will deploy from Mental Health Care, 6220 N. Nebraska Ave., and be on the streets counting from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Tampa City Council Candidate Jason Wilson will answer phones at the Homeless Count Call In Center, 200 S. Parker Ave., from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

And surely there must be one mayoral candidate who perhaps want to balance out their desire to eliminate panhandling by working with the Coalition for a day, right?  Um, no, not really.  From the press release:

No Tampa Mayoral candidates contacted the Homeless Coalition to help with the homeless count.

Sara Romeo with the following e-mail to us early Thursday afternoon:

Please correct your statement. Ed Turanchik was out at 8 am today on the Homeless count. He is working with the Tampa Crossroads Team. After surveying a number of homeless men and women he was visibly moved and appeared at a downtown luncheon in his bright blue t shirt from the Count TEAM>  He was great and insists that this was one of the most emotional days he has had in our community.

UPDATE:( As you will you see down below, we wrote a post Wednesday based on a press release from the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County that listed the various city council members and city council candidates who were scheduled to assist the other hundreds of volunteers to count the number of homeless today.

Overnight we heard from Kelly Benjamin that he would be participating, and Sara Romeo e-mailed us early this afternoon saying that Ed Turanchik was also out and about.  Romeo wrote to tell us to change our story because of his participation,  which we're happy to do.  However, when we wrote this yesterday, the coalition wrote explicitly that no mayoral candidates (at that time) were scheduled to participate.  You can read more below.)

On Thursday the annual count of the homeless will take place in Hillsborough County, and it being campaign season, where attacking those who solicit money from strangers has been all the rage, several members of the Tampa City Council and those that aspire to sit on that body, will help out in the count.

From the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County comes this press release:

Councilman Joseph Caetano will deploy from Mental Health Care, 6220 N. Nebraska Ave., and be on the streets counting from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Councilwoman Yolie Capin will answer phones at the Homeless Count Call in Center, 200 S. Parker from 4:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.

Councilwoman Mary Mulhern will deploy from Tampa Crossroads, 5120 N. Nebraska Ave., and be on the streets counting after 1 p.m.
