UPDATE:( As you will you see down below, we wrote a post Wednesday based on a press release from the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County that listed the various city council members and city council candidates who were scheduled to assist the other hundreds of volunteers to count the number of homeless today.
Overnight we heard from Kelly Benjamin that he would be participating, and Sara Romeo e-mailed us early this afternoon saying that Ed Turanchik was also out and about. Romeo wrote to tell us to change our story because of his participation, which we're happy to do. However, when we wrote this yesterday, the coalition wrote explicitly that no mayoral candidates (at that time) were scheduled to participate. You can read more below.)
On Thursday the annual count of the homeless will take place in Hillsborough County, and it being campaign season, where attacking those who solicit money from strangers has been all the rage, several members of the Tampa City Council and those that aspire to sit on that body, will help out in the count.
From the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County comes this press release:
Councilman Joseph Caetano will deploy from Mental Health Care, 6220 N. Nebraska Ave., and be on the streets counting from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Councilwoman Yolie Capin will answer phones at the Homeless Count Call in Center, 200 S. Parker from 4:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.
Councilwoman Mary Mulhern will deploy from Tampa Crossroads, 5120 N. Nebraska Ave., and be on the streets counting after 1 p.m.
