29In honor of its Art of Boat Building exhibit, Studio@620 hosts a "Barge Journey" discussion with Melanie Ourbak, who lived on a barge for the first 13 years of her life. A reading of Herman Melville's writings by poet Jeffrey James follows. 7:30 p.m., St. Petersburg.

30The first Nutcracker of the holiday season is presented by Orlando Ballet. More than 100 students from Tampa and Orlando dance schools perform with live accompaniment provided by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra. 7:30 p.m., Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Tampa.

01The annual Santa Fest and Holiday Parade features visits with Santa, live entertainment, 30 tons of snow, an outdoor ice-skating rink, crafts and hands-on activities and a festive parade down Seventh Avenue. 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Eighth Avenue between Centro Ybor and Centennial Park, Ybor City.

02The Florida Orchestra welcomes guest violinist Jennifer Frautschi for Russian Romantics, a Masterworks program that includes the original version of Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain, as well as Glazunov's Violin Concerto and Rachmaninoff's Symphonic Dances. 7:30 p.m., Ruth Eckerd Hall, Clearwater.

03The 140-voice SPC Chorus stages its annual Candlelight Christmas Concert. This year's theme is "Christmas Around the World," and the program consists of Christmas songs from Brazil, France, Ireland, England, Italy and other international locales. 7:30 p.m., SPC Music Center, St. Petersburg.

04Chabad of Tampa Bay and Brandon celebrate the beginning of Chanukah with a City Hall Chanukah Extravaganza. Attendees witness the lighting of a giant menorah and enjoy live music, entertainment and hot latkes. 5:30 p.m., Franklin Street and Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa.

05The Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is an annual 5k competitive run and one-mile fitness walk. Participants wear bells on their shoes, and awards go to the highest fundraisers. Registration 6 p.m., walk 7 p.m. Lowry Park Zoo, Tampa.
