World Carfree Day: Thursday, September 22

Bike, take public transportation or use your own two legs to get around.

"As the climate heats up, World Carfree Day is the perfect time to take the heat off the planet, and put it on city planners and politicians to give priority to cycling, walking and public transport, instead of to the automobile,"
states the official Carfree Day website.

Get out that bike, take the bus or, at the very least, organize a carpool tomorrow in honor of this eco-conscious day! Hey, at the very least it will be one less day you'll be paying for gas.

September 22nd marks World Carfree Day, a day where people are encouraged to give up using their personal automobiles and utilize bicycles, public transportation and their own two legs to get around. People all around the world organize and participate in events to demonstrate alternatives to the automobile.

World Carfree Day began as part of the Carbusters organization, founded in 1997, to promote alternatives to car dependence, to help lower greenhouse gas emissions, and in an effort to get governments to create permanent changes in cities to benefit pedestrians, cyclists, and other people who do not drive cars.
