It's finally here. August 24 has been a date marked for months by many in Florida's political establishment, and let's hope that a little rain doesn't deter people from weighing in on some interesting races.
Though there will be some interesting local contests to watch, in our big heavyweight elections, the one to watch for tonight is the Florida GOP primary race for Governor between Rick Scott and Bill McCollum. With the entire Florida Republican establishment for McCollum, two recent polls show Scott might have a chance to pull off the upset, and in turn do a number on those Republicans who haven't supported him.
Whomever is the GOP candidate, you can bet that they'll be pounding on an issue that all Republicans have fallen in love with in 2010, being tough on illegal immigration. But yesterday, a couple of Florida Republicans joined others in blasting the decision to go "Arizona style" in dealing with his problem.
And ever since we went to SeaWorld to report on what happened when a trainer was killed by an orca last February, we've been closely following that story. Yesterday it was back in the news after OSHA announced they were fining the marine theme-park. But SeaWorld is fighting that fine.
We have a list of what all the major candidates are doing today. Noticeably, there is one of those candidates whose schedule is a bit lighter than the other ones stumping for last minute votes.
