After an almost six-month hiatus, Salerno Theatre Company returns to the stage with a limited engagement production of She Loves Me. This charming musical — based on a play by Miklos Laszlo — follows two feuding clerks in a 1930s New York perfumery who find secret solace in anonymous romantic pen pals, neither knowing that their respective correspondents are each other. If the story sounds familiar, you've probably seen a film version of Laszlo's play, like The Shop Around the Corner (1940) starring Jimmy Stewart, or one of that movie's remakes, like In the Good Old Summertime (1949) or the more recent Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks hit, You've Got Mail (1989). The local variation is Salerno's first show at the company's new Gulfport home; Charlie Skelton directs. Jan. 5-8: 8 p.m. Thurs.-Sat., 2 p.m. Sun. Catherine Hickman Theater, 5501 27th Ave. S., Gulfport, $21 adults/$18 seniors and kids 12 and younger. 727-552-2222 or www.SalernoTheatre.com.
