The Pacific Northwest is quite literally the farthest someone can fly from Florida in the lower 48 states, which is why getting there typically takes an Oregon Trail-type effort. Well, no longer does a member of your party need to die of dysentery.

This afternoon, Alaska Airlines announced a new nonstop route from Tampa International Airport to Portland starting Dec. 16. The flights will depart four days a week and run through April 18. Tickets are currently available.

TPA also announced new direct flights to Los Angeles from American Airlines starting Oct. 7, and new routes to Nashville and the Raleigh-Durham beginning in November.

Alaskan Airlines was recently the center of controversy after an employee alleged the company discriminates against non-binary workers
