If you haven't heard of Kay's Kitchen, you'll want to get acquainted.

The Tampa-based concept serves up Chicago-style fried chicken and fish with authentic Chicago-style mild sauce. Windy City fried chicken is different from what you're used to in that it's cooked in both meat fat and oil and then drizzled with sauce afterwards.

Since its founding, Kay's has grown from a food truck to a walk-up brick-and-mortar at 3320 E. Osborne Ave., and last month it expanded further by moving once again to the former Ry Ry's Chicken and Waffle location at 11124 N. 30th St. near USF's Tampa campus.

The new digs means you'll be able to eat wings, chicken nuggets, sandos and special meals like half-pound gizzard, four wings and fries or a pizza puff, four wings and fries inside. Wash it all down with a fountain drink, freshly brewed tea or Kay's homemade flavored lemonade with your choice of peach, mango, strawberry or pineapple. Damn, this is comfort food.

Kay's also runs a delivery service (up to three miles) for $5. Just a heads up, no cash payments are accepted for delivery. Hours for the fried chicken joint are Tuesday through Thursday 11 a.m.-9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.-10 p.m., and Sunday noon-7 p.m.
