Kandy Book a babysitter, suburbanites. Mad Decent Records’ Kandy comes to this Carrollwood club as one of the few gay men in the mainstream EDM scene. “I stopped making music for like a year straight to find myself and just enjoy [the New York drag] scene,” Kandy said about a new video, “Feelin' KNT,” which found the Long Island native coming out to the world just after coming out to his family, “and that’s kind of where it all came from. I threw these vocals on a track, and out came the track.” (Whiskey North, Tampa) INFO

✔️ Jon Ditty Birthday Show w/Foundation x DJ Hurley/Mike Mass/Heyeyella/Young 40 Jon Ditty is a Bay area hip-hop entity that doesn’t get enough credit for the work he does. On Thursday, he welcomes a mighty fine lineup of Bay area rappers to a cozy, small-town pub for a party that’s meant to make up for all of the fun Irma ruined one year ago. ✔️ Summer of Soul: O Som Do Jazz w/Francisco de Lima It took him six years of practicing, but after picking up the trombone at 10 years old, Francisco de Lima finally went pro at the age of 16. The Grammy-nominated valve-trombonist who founded Brazilian big band Banda Mantiqueira is much older now, and he arrives at Palladium’s Summer of Soul series to support his latest album, Suingue Brasileiro, in which he interprets works by Djavan, João Bosco, Moacir Santos and others, presenting a unique blend of Brazilian ginga (swing) and American jazz. A regular of festivals around the globe plus Carnegie Hall in New York City, de Lima’s work with Banda Mantiqueira is a touchstone for all Brazilian artists. For this appearance at Palladium Theater’s Side Door Cabaret, de Lima will be backed by O Som Do Jazz, which features Brazilian singer Andrea Moraes Manson and a crew of experienced musicians including trombonist David Mason and drummer Mark Feinman, who is a member of St. Petersburg’s La Lucha (whose new album CL is streaming a week early via cltampa.com/music). Rock The Park w/The Boats/Photo Fire/Serendipity Downtown Tampa’s long-running, no-cover, family and pet-friendly outdoor music series eases into the fall with this show featuring a pair of rock bands including The Boats from St. Petersburg, who spent 10 years creating music before disbanding in the mid-2000s. The quintet’s new album (Single Cell Biography) was released in July, and finds The Boats floating into familiar, anthemic, alt-tock territory. This one starts early (6:30 p.m.), and usually gets you home before 10 p.m., too. (Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, Tampa) INFO

Florida Orchestra Instrument Petting Zoo The Florida Orchestra’s new season won’t kick off in a big way until later this month, but here’s an early afternoon (3 p.m.) opportunity for parents, big brother and sisters, or mentors to take a kid out to the public library where they will be able to get up close and personal with (and even touch) an instrument that may one day change their life. (Arthenia L. Joyner University Area Community Library, Tampa) INFO

Red Light Café: Joe Goodkin w/David Moore/Kid Loki Paper Arrows frontman Joe Goodkin brings the music of that Chicago band, his latest album Record of Love and (hopefully) stuff from his solo, operatic folk translation of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey to Ybor City as part of this low-key, underground music series at The Bunker. (Red Light Café at The Bunker, Ybor City) INFO

✔️ Santoros w/Scott Yoder/Blestian These fucking Mexicans with their badass brand of garage-ready, psychedelic surf-rock. Why do they have to come to Tampa to rock the record store so hard? And why are they bringing Seattle songwriter Scott Yoder to support a damaged, noisy and sorta-gorgeous 2018 solo album A Fool Aloof? Lastly, why does it only cost $7 to go to a great Thursday-night show happening in the backyard of every Seminole Heights resident who believes they’re cooler than their friends who opted for a life in the ‘burbs?
