CL loves Shep's Beer Emporium. Many a Wednesday, News & Views Editor Kate Bradshaw and I stop by and pick up a little something to enjoy after our weekly editorial meetings.
So when we heard the venerable St. Petersburg bottle shop had decided to relocate — and offer 20 percent off bottles of wine and cases of beer, alongside up to 25 percent off on big bottles — we beat a path to the shop's doors to ask: Why the move?
"We realize we need to downsize," said Andrew "Moose" Perrin. "Our biggest complaint is that we have too much beer."
Yeah, I hate that.
But having a bunch of product also comes at a cost.
"Refrigeration costs eat into beer profit," he continued.
Although the owners of Shep's haven't selected a new location yet, they plan to make the move from 2001 Fourth St. N. in early April. They're scouting sites along Fourth Street North and MLK.
Moose added: "I'm excited to be closer to downtown."
