Through the Eyes of a Child

Kids practice their digital vision

If you missed Florida Museum of Photographic Arts' annual Eyes of a Child exhibition — which includes images taken by the young participants of the Literacy Through Photography Children's Outreach Program — Tampa Artist Emporium displays the images on its Charity Wall through September.

The museum program gives at-risk youngsters the opportunity to learn the basics of using a camera via free digital photography workshops. Then, with loaned digital camera in hand, the youngsters are taken out into the world and encouraged to make use of their newly-acquired photography skills. The resulting shots are framed and presented during FMoPA's annual Eyes of a Child: Summer Children's Show.

See the shots during Tampa Artist Emporium's monthly Art Mixer/reception from 5 to 9 p.m. this Sat., Aug. 9. Guests are also treated to $5 photo shoots by photographer Dave Pritchard, a display of works by more than 60 local artists and a complimentary wine bar.

Eyes of a Child, on display through Sept. 30, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Mon.-Sat., noon-5 p.m. Sun., Tampa Artist Emporium-Hyde Park Village, 1618 Snow Ave., Tampa, free admission, 813-254-3443, tampaartistemporium.com.
