Live & Local Spotlight: Magadog Farewell Show at Rock the Park

Jamaican reggae and infectious island-style horns will fill the air as the signs of relief and sighs of exhaustion are experienced across Tampa Bay post-RNC. The Tampa Downtown Partnership, along with support from the local business community and THX Management, holds their monthly Rock in the Park concert series with a “Take Back the City” theme for the September edition, inviting residents to come out and recognize the value of the city without a big national event to zazz it up.

In addition to saying bye-bye to Republicans, bid a fond farewell to 20-year-strong ska favorite Magadog, who’ll be playing their final show locally at the event and official final show Nov. 3 in Ft. Lauderdale. For the past two decades, Ed Lowery and Co. have filled rooms with riotous dancing, delivering rocksteady fun with on-point musicianship. They will definitely be missed and we wish the gang luck on future endeavors, looking forward to what offshoots will happen next. Not performing last shows — we hope — are blues rock twosome Red Rock Its and folk-rock foursome Halibut.

Details: Rock the Park with Magadog, Red Rock/Its and Halibut, Thurs., Sept. 6, 6:30-10 p.m., Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, downtown Tampa, free admission.
