The South Seminole Heights Civic Association’s candidate mixer returns to Brew Bus Brewing from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 24. An annual event that started in Tampa in 2016, this mixer is expected to feature nearly 20 people vying for positions in a number of Hillsborough races, including the school board, Tampa mayor and county commission.
The participating candidates are in districts that include all or parts of Seminole Heights.
Unlike other forums where many of the candidates’ answers are practiced or prepared, the South Seminole Heights Civic Association has structured its mixer in a more approachable way. Residents are able to discuss the issues they care about and express their concerns during one-on-one conversations with each candidate in a relaxed setting.
“We have heard from our residents that they want to learn more about the candidates running to represent them in elected office,” said Stephen Lytle, president of the South Seminole Heights Civic Association , in a news release. “Instead of canned responses and brief quotes in the paper, we have found a way to offer our residents a unique opportunity to really get to know these candidates, spend quality time with them, and see for themselves if they are who they represent themselves to be.”
The mixer is hosted in conjunction with Brew Bus’s Give Back Wednesday promotion, meaning 20 percent of the food and drink sales benefit community improvement projects of the South Seminole Heights Civic Association.
