Some of you may already know this, but if you somehow get pulled over by a minivan in Pinellas County, there’s a good chance it might not be your mom, because right now authorities are out here pulling over people in grocery-getters.
A recent photo, reposted to St. Petersburg resident Alexis Miller’s Facebook account, shows a vehicle getting pulled over by what appears to be a burgundy Dodge minivan in Pinellas County, a far departure from the usual, and much cooler, unmarked Chevy Camaro, Nissan Altima or Toyota Camry.
At the moment, it’s unclear exactly which local law enforcement agencies are using the "tactical" minivans.
A source with the Clearwater Police Department confirmed to Creative Loafing that they do in fact use minivans for undercover operations, while Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and St. Petersburg Police Department wouldn’t confirm or deny the use of minivans.
We also reached out to the seven other Pinellas County law enforcement agencies and will update this post if we hear back.
This is also a good time to remind everyone that texting and driving officially becomes a primary offense on July 1.
