Phaze Jones strikes again with a visual for “Local Artist”. Harnessing every bit of lighting power from Amalie Arena, Jones unleashes a fury of rhymes over a Jazz trap instrumentation provided by 36 Swxg.
“Local Artists” is the second single from Jones's new debut album 1. The video cuts between scenes of the Jones and members of the Maicibsion camp at Amalie Arena and lurking around Tampa parking garages. The visual also features a cameo by Hiphopalooza 4 performance mate, Mike The Emcee.
Jones rhythmically picks up the pace from his first single for “Anxiety”, circling this track with his quick, witty and quirky wordplay about stealing beats and breaking pelvises. “Local Artist" sheds light on Jones more playful side.
A sweet nod to heavily chopped vocal samples directed by raspy vocals, “Wish Upon A Star” is crafted with twinkling keys and an unapologetic lack of a high falutin chorus.
Musing the sparks and offering personal perspective about the meaning of life and Stone Cold Stunners, Charles Burns lyrically unpredictable delivery brings his rap style close to MF Doom's tongue-in-cheek yet endless in depth approach. Burns offers hip hop listeners nostalgic relatability.
The video for “Wish Upon A Star” starts with Burns having an afternoon of arcade fun at a deserted bowling alley. However, as the video progresses it becomes clear that Burns trapped in a never ending cycle of games.
A great blend of anime and chillwave vocal crescendos, “My Passion/ The Plague” is a introduction to Brilly Asher’s diverse yet focused delivery.
By the time the chorus hits on “My Passion” Asher’s comprehension of music melody becomes undeniable. The seamless transition between verses and chorus gives the track clear cohesion.
Throughout the video, Asher spits as he tries attempts to remain unfazed by the losses and complications in his life. He notes that his passion is what has kept him in his lane, However, he is losing track of both himself and those close to him on the way to his dreams.
The second part of the visual features the single “The Plague”. The song features drill type instrumentation and rousing display of vigor, clearness, and lyricism from Asher. The visual shows Asher on the run for his life. To set the visual stage for “The Plague” MMS adds “a little” red to the video color scheme viewers witness the unfortunate demise of the emcee.
