✔️Dunedin International Film Festival After-party w/Roy Davis Jr./Austen van der Bleek/Boomerang He may have been born in California, but Roy Davis Jr.’s soul is in the south side of Chicago. It’s where he tapped into the sounds of Lil’ Louis, DJ Pierre, Farley Keith and Marshall Jefferson on the way to becoming one of the Windy City’s greatest house music exports. The Phuture collective alum is in Dunedin of all places, all because he’s the headliner at an after-party for the first-ever Dunedin International Film Festival. Admission is not included with your film festival pass, but there is a discounted option available via openhouseconspiracy.com/diff. (Blur, Dunedin) INFO

“Biota”:Alphabhet of Animalia — Illustrated by Joshua T. Pearson w/Betty Dawl Pep Rally Inc.’s Joshua Peterson gets to take a break from his company’s corporate commissions (sup, Sparkman Wharf) and show off a new series of anthropomorphic, hyper-stylized animals as part of this solo “Biota” show where Betty Dawl plays all the good music you didn’t know you needed. (The Bricks, Ybor City) INFO

✔️ Holey Miss Moley w/Twisty Chris & The Puddin’ Packs A retro-tiki-themed Tampa Bay music wedding is happening in Clearwater on Saturday afternoon, but the after-party is going down in Dunedin when outfits fronted by Robyn Alleman (funk-jam band Holey Miss Moley) and Chris Pack (the wild and punky Twisty Chris & The Puddin’ Packs) will celebrate their members’ union by playing alternating sets at Dunedin Brewery. Entry is free, and we’re pretty sure Alleman and Pack are doling out hugs, too. (Dunedin Brewery, Dunedin) INFO

Whitney James and Synia Carroll: Swingin’ & Singin’ II w/La Lucha/Daniel JordanAmerican Stage hosts some swinging jazz on Saturday when vocalists Whitney James & Synia Carroll join saxophonist Daniel Jordan and Bay area jazz trio La Lucha for a night of solo performances and duets. A nice start to 2019 for the Al Downing Tampa Bay Jazz Association and the second installment of what looks like an annual tradition for James and Carroll. (American Stage Raymond James Theatre, St. Petersburg) INFO

✔️ Trend Decay No. 1: Permanent Makeup w/Clang!/Ekumen/Perse Microgroove owner Keith Ulrey is out of town thanks to a tour with Mineral, but he’s letting Permanent Makeup (a punk band that’s released records on Ulrey’s New Granada Records) play in the space and kick off its own mini-Southeastern tour while he’s away. Bay area rock-scene agitator Clang! (touring with Permanent Makeup) plays a support set along with a new band, Perse, but all of it is happening in honor of weirdo New Orleans hardcore group Ekumen, which is playing in support of a forthcoming self-titled LP that won’t see release until February 1. Your $5 donation helps put gas in a band’s tank, and your homophobic, transphobic, racist or creepy-asshole behavior will not be tolerated by organizers of the new “Trend Decay” promotion company. (Microgroove, Tampa) INFO

Floating Roots Fest w/Ari Chi/King Complex/HeyeYella/Mwiza Simfukwe/Wallysburg/Annona/Tyler Costanzo It’s always great to see new Bay area music blogs pop up, and this show at St. Petersburg DIY space Paper Crane is the first festival pieced together by Floating Roots, which was founded in the second half of 2018. A pair of CL’s favorite songwriters (Mwiza Simfukwe, Ari Chi) are on the bill, but so is an exciting new St. Petersburg rapper HeyeYella and a handful of local rock acts, like masked blues-rock outfit King Complex. The entirety of the $10 cover will go towards paying the musicians, and an open mic happens at 7 p.m., if you’re into that. (Paper Crane, St. Petersburg) INFO

Winter Jam w/Newsboys United/Danny Gokey/Mandisa/Rend Collective/Ledger/Hollyn/Ty Basel/Manic Drive/Dan Bremnes/Adam Agee Worship music-loving fans of Jesus: It’s time to freak the hell out. What is probably the country’s biggest Christian music tour arrives in Tampa this weekend, bringing more than a dozen bands and speakers for a headlining concert and pre-jam party. No tickets are being sold (it’s a $15 donation at the door for the first come, first serve show, but there is a membership option available for $50 if you need to guarantee admission), and all the information regarding ADA accommodations (yes) and whether or not your band can play (nope) is available via 2019.jamtour.com. (Amalie Arena, Tampa) INFO

✔️ Tinsley Ellis w/Davis Coen Rolling Stone said that Tinsley Ellis’ licks rival those of Jeff Beck and Eric Clapton, and for the last three decades, the 61-year-old Georgia guitarist has been nurturing his obsession with British blues bands by marrying it to an affection for Memphis R&B, southwest blues and urban funk. Tinsley plays in support of his 2018 album, Winning Hand, at this Skipper’s gig where Memphis bluesman Davis Coen plays songs from his first ever spirituals-based LP, These Things Shall Pass. (Skipper’s Smokehouse, Tampa) INFO

✔️ Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe w/Stanton Moore/Kenneth Crouch Karl Denson calls his job with the Rolling Stones a“side gig,” and we totally believe him (the 62-year-old songwriter replaced his hero, Bobby Keyes, on saxophone in 2014). For the last two decades, Denson has been expanding fans’ worlds via his Tiny Universe project, and on Saturday he brings some of his Greyboy Allstars bandmates to Orpheum in support of a forthcoming Tiny Universe album, Gnomes & Badgers. CL had a chance to talk to Denson about the LP, and our full Q&A is available here. (Orpheum, Ybor City) INFO
