Halloween makes me think of Martha Stewart. Why? Because one year my mom and I tried to re-create her ghost cake for an annual Halloween party I attend. It, uh, didn't work, but a tradition was born. Every year, I attempt to recreate a horror scene from film... out of Peeps. The cake, in honor of the first one, must be awful. Another friend has to find a really bad horror film. If we, at any point in the viewing, start to care about any of the characters, she has failed. A third friend decorates her home with an insane obsession (technically, it's her husband's obsession). That's Peep-O-Ween. It's a little broken, but then, so are we.
Enough about me. Let's get you into the Halloween spirit like you're a Peep who's about to have a plastic baby shoved through its stomach (Alien, Peep-O-Ween 2015).
Friday
It's your last chance to see Chicklet and company in Psycho Beach Party. Too much fun? Vote at Powerstories Theatre takes a dramatic foray into voting rights. This is the least Halloween-y the post will get.
Saturday
Necronomicon celebrates its 35th year in Tampa... with all-night parties. And, you know, other stuff. It's *the* fantasy/sci-fi convention to attend, although Megacon wants to give it a run for its money. They have some cool names, but our fave is Henry Winkler. Fun fact: Happy Days stayed at the number one spot for five years after Fonzie jumped the shark. So maybe that phrase doesn't mean what we think it means.
Go to Dunedin to get fashionably dead at Casa Tina's annual Day of the Dead party, or hang in Ybor for the March of the Pumpkin King parade.
Sunday
Brunch happens, and it's our job to help you find new and fun places to brunch. This week, though, we're telling you where to sushi: At Ox & Fields for Halloween-inspired fishy stuffs.
Monday
So much Halloweening. Take an extra day off and celebrate with Scream-A-Geddon, Nightmare on Franklin Street or, if you have kids, the Treat Trail in Pinellas Park. Looking for a classy scary good time? Check out Venetian Halloween, a Venice-style masquerade meets Rocky Horror meets Old World vampires. Also, there's food. Really good food...
And that's your guide to Peep-O-Ween 2016 (Ouija and also because I have all this leftover black fondant) Halloween. Have fun next week — it's a short one and we'll all be back here before you know it.
