George Clanton w/Negative Gemini/Fr33dback Totally not the purple-dreaded frontman of Parliament Funkadelic, okay? This vaporwave it-boy (and Mirror Kisses mastermind) is a torchbearer for an electronic music subgenre that’s also become a meme since the Internet doesn’t really react well to dramatic blasts of day-glo synth, blissed out hi-hat and far off vocals. Lindsey French’s New York solo project (Negative Gemini, which has been compared to an edgier Kylie Minogue) plays support on a bill that is pretty much straight off the pages of FADER magazine. Greensky Bluegrass w/Joshua Davis Progressive bluegrass is a thing, and Greensky Bluegrass makes it. It’s especially good on a 2016 LP — Shouted, Written Down & Quoted — where the boys take the expertise they’ve earned from miles and miles of touring and pack it into a compact, 44-minute masterpiece that was one of the most slept on albums of last year. Michigan roots songwriter Joshua Davis opens the show. (Jannus Live, St. Petersburg) INFO
Victor Wooten Trio Victor Wooten alone is a good get, but the 52-year-old five time Grammy-winner is upping the ante for this Capitol Theatre show where he’ll be flanked by legendary drummer Dennis Chambers (Bootsy Collins, Santana) and veteran saxophonist Bob Franceschini (Mike Stern, Yellowjackets, Paul Simon) for a set that we hope gives fans a preview of a new album that Wooten — a founding member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones — is set to release in the summer.
