The cast of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Based on the spry 1988 comedy starring Michael Caine and Steve Martin (which was actually a remake of 1964's Bedtime Story with David Niven and Marlon Brando), Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (the touring musical version) makes a stop in town as part of the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center's Broadway series. If you've seen the movie, you know the premise: Two con men, one suave and debonair, the other somewhat uncouth, realize after attempting to work together that the tiny French Riviera town of Beaumont sur Mer isn't big enough for the both of them. To make room, they wager that the first one to bilk $50,000 out of a young female heiress is the winner while the other must leave town. In light of the solid source material and rave reviews from Variety, the L.A. Times and the New Yorker, this musical sounds like a winner. Nov. 14-19, 7:30 p.m. Tues.-Thurs., 8 p.m. Fri., 2 and 8 p.m. Sat., 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sun., Carol Morsani Hall, downtown Tampa, $36.50-$72.50, 813-229-7827, www.dirtyrottentour.com.
