✔️ The Holy Terror’s Live Debut w/John Nowicki/Lou Collazo In January, CL detailed a forthcoming solo release from Poetry ‘n Lotion drummer John Nowicki. On Thursday, the 10-track LP titled The Holy Terror (and Other Diversions) makes its live debut at a downtown Tampa dive where attendees get to experience songs like “Occupy Your Head,” which has banjos in drop-D tuning and played in 5/4 time. The album’s feel-good hit, according to Nowicki, is about the horrible people currently in positions of power and the loss of any kind of faith in humanity. Collectively, the album primarily sounds the way being stranded in the middle of nowhere feels. “On one of those highways that are giant cuts in the surrounding wilderness. Just uncaring, hostile nature, and you,” Nowicki said of the vision. “And maybe a bottle of booze.” (The Hub Bar, Tampa) INFO

✔️ Tito Auger w/Acho Brother There’s a Parts Unknown episode in which the late Anthony Bourdain visits a hurricane-stricken Puerto Rico. The closing scene finds singer-songwriter Tito Auger and his band, Fiel a la Vega, singing “Salimos de Aquí” ("We Come from Here") around a dinner table. The band has been a PR scene staple for the last two decades, and now Tampa is going to get a chance to experience Fiel a la Vega’s sometimes politically charged Latin rock sounds thanks to a solo set from the 50-year-old Auger, who arrives in Ybor City for this, his Tampa debut. This show should also satisfy the Latin rock itch of anyone who was hoping to catch that now-canceled set from Nicaraguan singer Luis Enrique, who was supposed to perform down the street. Strung Out w/Make War It’s the 20th anniversary of Strung Out’s Twisted By Design, so the Simi Valley punk-rock band is bringing the album — the band’s last to feature bassist Jim Cherry, who died of heart disease after its release — on the road. For many, Twisted, which was just a touch different from the “classic” Strung Out sound, served as a gateway to two of the band’s more revered albums (a 1994 debut, Another Day in Paradise; 1996’s Suburban Teenage Wasteland Blues), which will surely get some play at this show where Brooklyn party-punk band Make War opens the show. Community Couch, a uke-driven St. Petersburg punk band, finds freedom in expression
Mobina Galore w/Rutterkin/Community Couch/Joyeater If you didn’t sleep, it would take about 30 hours to drive from Winnipeg to St. Petersburg, so you better believe that Mobina Galore, a punk duo from that Canadian city, is going to make the most of the stage time it’ll get at this St. Petersburg tattoo shop. The band has toured with Against Me! and Propagandhi in the last year or two, but its sound leans more toward the melodic aspects of Laura Jane Grace’s Florida outfit than it does the hardcore tendencies of the (also Canadian) Propagandhi, which boasts Tampa’s own Sulynn Hago on guitar. New-ish St. Petersburg punk duo Rutterkin opens the show in support of a self-titled EP released this summer. (Lucky You Tattoo, St. Petersburg) INFO
Ko Eun Lee Korean pianist Dr. Ko Eun Lee, who studied with Jerome Lowenthal at the Juilliard School from 2004-2010 en route to earning Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in music, plays a guest recital alongside USF faculty Young Cho (soprano), Francesca Arnone (flute) and John Robison (oboe). Lee’s solo work is influenced by her home country, and you can probably count on hearing pieces by Isang Yun, Kyong Mee Choi, David Burge, and Nikolai Kapustin at this one.
