Florida snowbird and Canadian artist Victoria Block is best known for producing striking, large-scale impressionistic landscapes with a vibrant palette of oils. In her latest exhibit, Narrations, Block incorporates ceramic vessels, books and other forms into installations. The exhibit opens at Gulf Coast Museum of Art this Saturday along with Studio Works. The museum's annual juried show features drawing, painting, ceramics, metalsmithing, sculpture, mixed media and fiber arts created by instructors and artists who have taught or taken studio classes or workshops at GCMA in the past 12 months, with a special focus on the teen students who participated in the Youth Arts Corp Program. Awards are presented to the best in both the student and faculty categories at the opening reception, which begins at 7 p.m. Fri., Aug. 8.
