UPDATE: 59 dead, more than 500 injured after shooting at Route 91 Harvest country music festival in Las Vegas

Shots reportedly broke out as Jason Aldean closed out the three-day festival. This is a developing story.

Dozens have been injured and at least two people are dead after a shooting at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival shut down the strip in Las Vegas, Nevada (via AP).

UPDATE: At least 20 people — including an off-duty officer from Bakersfield, California — have been killed, according to authorities. Jason Aldean, who was onstage at the time of the shooting, has called the events "beyond horrific."

UPDATE 2: Authorities have identified the suspected gunman as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock. The death toll is up to 50 and at least 200 people have been injured in what is now the worst mass shooting in U.S. history.

UPDATE 3: The death toll is now at 58 59, and more than 500 people were wounded in the attacks. Officials have also determined that the shooter sprayed bullets onto the crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay casino-hotel tower.

Concert-goers say they heard the sound of automatic gun fire and saw light from muzzle flashes coming from the upper floors of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino as Jason Aldean closed out a weekend of music that included performances by Big & Rich, Jake Owen, Sam Hunt and Brett Young.

University Medical Center spokeswoman Danita Cohen said that 26 people were admitted to her hospital, including at least two who died. Several were in critical condition.

As of 12:40 a.m. PST, police have confirmed that the suspect is down. This is a developing story.
