St. Petersburg folkie Mountain Holler invites fans to relax at tour kickoff concert

The “sit-in” show leads this roundup of the best local concerts.

Mark Etherington — better known as Mountain Holler — is going on a short tour, and here’s a chance to help the St. Petersburg songwriter with the gas money. The best part about this show alongside instrumental-rock band Gullwing and neo-folk outfit The Wandering Hours is the fact that it’s a “sit-in” where attendees at Paper Crane are more than welcome to sit down on blankets, yoga mats or anything comfy. Pass the beanbag, yo, and then check out previews of some of the other great local music events happening over the next week.

Left Lane Presents Art & Soul w/Venus Bleu/Omari Dillard/Telicia Da Poet/Anthony Ortiz/Bar God Left Lane’s signature event has been selling out as of late, and for good reason. The Bay area promotions company has made a habit of curating excellent, homegrown lineups for its Iberian Rooster shows, and this one is no different. Violinist Omari Dillard appears on the lineup alongside soul outfit Venus Bleu, Telicia Da Poet, rapper Bargod and songwriter Anthony Ortiz. Early arrival, or table reservations, are advised. Thurs. March 21. SubCentral at Iberian Rooster, St. Petersburg. INFO.

J.T. Brown Bay area Americana songwriter J.T. Brown has been going through changes lately (a baby and new home will do it to you), and he’s going to play an intimate set at The Attic to share some of the new music that’s been gestating inside him since the release of his late 2016 solo release, Phantom Heart. Fri. March 22. The Attic at Rock Brothers Brewing Company, Ybor City.

Steve Isaac Bay area fans of house shows should probably have Bob Soptei’s shindigs on their calendars. This particular installment of the Living Room Sessions series is special because it finds former Texan (and current St. Petersburg resident) Isaac recording plenty of new material that’ll be part of his first CD. Guests at the South Pasadena house show will get a free copy of the record, and you’ll have to ask a friend about where the party is actually happening. If you’re looking for even more house show action, then check out the Listening Room Festival kickoff of March 27. Fri. March 22. House Show, South Pasadena. INFO.
