Reggae music has evolved a lot since it first injected itself into the consciousnesses of American fans, and Ziggy Marley has grown a lot, too. Parking in St. Petersburg has also grown to be a pain in the ass, so check out information on that below.
The 50-year-old seed of a legend is headed to Vinoy Park’s sure-to-be-sold-out Reggae Rise Up (he plays on Saturday alongside Slightly Stoopid, Method Man and Redman), but Marley is also the latest musician to sign a podcast deal with podcast label Sigal Co. No1 (Serial and S-Town producer Julie Snyder, Sigur Rós and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino are labelmates). Don’t expect him to talk too much at the gig, though. Marley’s new album, Rebellion Rises, is his first since a 2016 self-titled release that’s more of a call to action than mellow meditation, and it even got nominated for Best Reggae Album at the Grammys last month (it lost, criminally, to Sting and Shaggy).

Alternative transportation
- There is a Cross-Bay Ferry that'll get you to and from Tampa (The Florida Aquarium in Channelside ) and St. Petersburg (Vinoy Basin, steps away from the festival), but its final St. Pete departures are at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 9 p.m. on Sunday, so plan accordingly (music ends at 10 p.m. each day). Advance tickets to ride the ferry are highly suggested.
- The City of St. Petersburg will also run a free-to-ride, open-air, in-town trolley that is scheduled to stop at downtown St. Pete's Sundial parking garage (east side of 1st St mid-block between 1st Ave N & 2nd Ave N) and Vinoy Park every 15 minutes.
