Military veterans can get into USF and Selina Román’s online photography workshop for free

But they have to sign up before July 6.

The Contemporary Art Museum at the University of South Florida (USF-CAM) is offering a free photography workshop for military veterans, and WHY HAVEN'T YOU SIGNED UP YET? It's online, it's free, you don’t need any photography experience, you can use your cell phone camera. Plus, Selina Román is teaching.

Román, a Tampa-based fine art photographer, is one of my absolute favorite contemporary photographers. Her work runs the gamut from funny to creepy to mysterious to just plain odd, and I love all of it, as does most of the Tampa Bay area. Román’s work has been featured at more local art galleries and museums than I care to list.

Breaking Barriers: Online Photography Workshop for Military Veterans at USF
July 10-Aug. 7, 2020
Fridays, 8 a.m.-12 p.m. (Section A) or 1-5 p.m. (Section B)
For more information or to register, email Leslie Elsasser at [email protected] or Ashley Jablonski at [email protected].

If I was looking for someone to teach me how to express myself through photography, I’d choose Selina Román. Román can help you take your experiences and memories, good or bad, and turn them into art. At the end of the five-week program, your photographs could even be featured on USF-CAM’s website (or in the gallery if it’s safe to finally congregate in person).

“This is a wonderful program and this year CAM received a small grant to double the capacity to reach more veterans,” Leslie Elsasser, USF-CAM’s Curator of Education, told Creative Loafing Tampa Bay.

So go sign up. Sign up now and tell all your veteran friends. Opportunities like this don’t come along every day.
