Tonight in live music; The Menzingers, Jeff Rosenstock, ACLU jams, Mieux Awards and more

Sunday funday.

The Menzingers w/Jeff Rosenstock/Rozwell Kid There’s a lot of talk about growing up when it comes to The Menzingers brand new album After The Party (released in February). Let’s hope that principal songwriters Tom May and Greg Barnett never grow out of the rich narratives and big melodies their Pennsylvania based band has put together throughout the course of a career that’s watched them evolve from Scranton ska punks to the straight up Springsteens of their genre. The addition of another fast-rising, feverently adored American songwriter (Long Island’s Jeff Rosenstock) and West Virginia power pop trio Rozwell Kid make this an A-plus bill from top to bottom. ACLU Fundraiser w/GreyMarket/Jinx/Mike Mass/Acho Brother/Sunset Sundays DJs In an Instagram query regarding exactly what his company’s new “Fake News” enamel pins were referring to, One of the Worst co-founders said the accessory was referring to kind of fake news that “is designed to control and enslave masses through fear and false promise. The kind that threatens human rights. The kind that starts wars. Dangerous stuff. Any of it. That kind.” The Tampa-based illustrating giant is putting his money where his mouth is at this hip-hop, folk and rock show that benefits the ACLU as they fight to protect the inherent rights of everyone who calls this still beautiful country home. 5th Annual Mieux Magazine Awards We’ve said it a bunch of times, and we’ll say it again: this city does well when there are more music websites shining a light on the makers that make us proud to call these streets home. Mieux Magazine — a Tampa Bay based website that focuses on Florida fashion, art and music — will dole out awards for 25 categories at their fifth annual awards show. You might still have time to cast a ballot by the time you read this in print, so head to mieuxmagazine.com to have a look. Read our interview with May by visiting cltampa.com/music.
