An 85-year-old resident of Lakeland retirement community Cypress Lakes was bitten by an alligator yesterday.

According to a Bay News 9 story, the resident had gone into a wooded area near the water's edge to "flush out birds nearby." Instead, the person flushed out a gator, and was bitten on the foot. A Facebook post by the community reported that there was "quite a commotion," which, well, yeah.

A local landscaper who was working nearby helped staunch the bleeding, and the man was taken to the hospital. He is expected to recover.

The gator, a 9-footer, was removed by a professional trapper.
