Nestled in the heart of downtown, Currents opened its doors to Tarpon Springs diners in 2009.

On Thursday afternoon, Currents held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its newly finished event hall. But there’s more merriment where that came from for the downtown Tarpon Springs restaurant.

Currents is set to commemorate its nine-year anniversary over five courses, offering seatings at 5 or 8 p.m. Friday. In addition to a free glass of wine, guests have the opportunity to partake in gift certificate giveaways, plus raffles featuring prizes like a weekend stay at downtown St. Pete’s Birchwood on Beach Drive.

What’s chef Keith Herda got for dinner? Stuffed butter-poached jumbo shrimp, lump crab cake with warm pineapple chutney, beer-braised pork shank on fontina bacon grits with carrot purée, filet mignon over Gorgonzola mash with Champagne butter, and bread pudding with Woodford Reserve vanilla bean anglaise.

Tickets to the celebration cost $55 per person, and phone reservations are required.

“We look forward to seeing you,” Currents wrote on its Facebook event page.

BTW: If diners want to experience the must-visit restaurant’s event hall by hosting a business meeting or observing a special occasion, no rental fee is required. All they gotta do is make a rezi.
