Tampa’s Coppertail Brewing Co. is gearing up to release a beer that pays homage to its home base in Ybor City. Septima Saison — as the brewery has dubbed the traditional farmhouse-style ale — is named after the historic district’s main street that needs no intro: Seventh Avenue, or La Septima.
With notes of black pepper, clove and citrus, Septima Saison will roll out in the Coppertail taproom and in six-packs available through limited distribution across the state. Its debut is planned for the first week of May.
“This beer for Ybor,” reads the new beer’s whimsical label created by artist Evan B. Harris. “On La Septima / 7th Ave. chickens roam between old brick cigar factories and the scent of roasting coffee fills the air. It’s on the fringe of Tampa, and the fringe of society. It’s where artists go to create, tourists gawk and people who don’t fit neatly into a box can just be themselves.
“It’s always felt like the right place for us.”
Appropriately accompanying the words are roosters, cobblestone roads, streetlights à la Ybor and cigars — plus a sleeping mermaid. We’re sure she fits into the neighborhood’s roots somehow.
A portion of the sale proceeds from Septima Saison will go to the Ybor City Development Council and Ybor Merchants Association.
