James Suggs: You’re Gonna Hear From Me Like the classical scene, Tampa Bay’s jazzers were a little neglected in 2018. While strong showings from perennial favorites like Nate Najar, La Lucha and John O’Leary were highlights on the calendar, this late in the game release from James Suggs swooped in to seal the deal and leave us swooning over the trumpeter’s unpredictable melodic ideas, unique phrasing and ridiculous breath control plus his ability to wrangle the all-star band (soul and jazz sax legend Houston Person, pianist Lafayette Harris, bassist Peter Washington and Lewis Nash on drums) that backs him on the 61-minute creative joyride.
