Kevin Devine & the Goddamn Band w/Pinegrove/Julien Baker/Petal Parents, this is a show you’ll want to accompany your children to — and not because it’s going to be sketchy. Front to back, this Saturday-night shindig features some of the most important young American songwriters touring today. Pinegrove have blended country, emo and frontman Evan Stephens Hall’s intricate, heart-wrenching guitar work into one of 2016’s best albums (Cardinal). Julien Baker, 21-year-old frontwoman for Memphis, Tennessee's Forrister, is wrapping up the touring cycle supporting Sprained Ankle, a transparent 2015 solo LP where topics like drug addiction, loneliness and pain get aired out on top of intricately looped, stripped-back guitar arrangements. Petal — which revolves around Scranton, Connecticut songwriter Kiley Lotz — has managed to make melancholy cathartic, and the entire tour has been built around (now) indie-rock elder statesman Kevin Devine, who arrived in 2000 with his old band Miracle of 86 (go Mets, we guess) before going on to establish himself as perhaps the most important voice in millennial-supported folk (listen to his 9/11 reflection “No History” for proof). Folkfest St. Pete w/AJ Ghent Band, Ari and the Alibis/UNRB/Rebekah Pulley/Dropin Pickup/Dean Johanesen Trio/Paul Sprawl/Passerine/Chant the Trees Creative Clay hosts a two-day festival where proceeds benefit programs that increase access to arts for all. Vendors from around the country will be on hand, and community radio station WMNF 88.5 FM will be broadcasting live on Saturday when Dean Johanesen brings his trio to a music lineup, that includes bands across all genres including ska, indie-pop and blues.
