One exhibit, three communities: Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration

Artists, get ready. The rest of us? Get excited.

Next summer — gosh, that seems far away, doesn't it? — the Tampa Museum of Art will open Skyway: A Contemporary Collaboration. When the exhibit opens in June, three museums across the Bay will share it: the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota; the Museum of Fine Arts, St. Petersburg; and the Tampa Museum of Art. It's up to curators at each of those three institutions to provide context, no easy task because the art will come from local artists and anyone can submit, so expect a breadth of media and expressions.

So, if you're reading and thinking, "Hey, I'm an artist and I totally have something that fits!", here's what you do. Take a look at the submission guidelines and then, you know, submit your stuff. The call for submissions closes on Dec. 15.

"This exhibition is not only a celebration of artistic practice in the Tampa Bay area, but also an exercise in collaboration," Nancy Kipnis of the Tampa Museum of Art, explains. "Working together, curators from these institutions will provide context for the diversity of art being made in Hillsborough, Manatee, Pinellas, and Sarasota Counties. Works in the exhibition will be selected from an open call by museum curators and a visiting juror."
